An Honest Out-of-Office Message [Weekend WRAP 78]
I have been out of the office for a couple days this week. Once a year, I meet up with my oldest friends and we play a four round marathon at a cool course.
The challenge I face (almost) any vacation is trying NOT to work 5 days in 3 and “get ahead.” I’m improving, but not quite there yet. Basically, a lot of hustling this week.
I set a normal out of office email reply, standard “I am away, contact this person, etc etc.” Here is the one I would like to send:
An Honest OOO Message
Hi there, I am away from work for a few days. I don’t have my computer and you cannot get in touch with me. I only have phone for family emergencies, and heck I tell them if it’s that bad please dial 911 first.
If you are a current client, there’s a chance I’m a little behind. I took on a lot of work at the beginning of the year because that’s how a business grows. You are a priority and every milestone will be hit, email sent, and launch begun on time. I think if more people were honest, a lot of work is like that. I know it doesn't have to be crazy at work... but life is pretty crazy at this time, and both are inextricably linked.
Because let’s be honest - I’m also focused on being a great husband, dad, friend, son, and brother. I’m prioritizing time for personal fitness, self-care, reading Brandon Sanderson novels, and watching 1923.
Life is full and I enjoy (almost) every moment of it. You are a part of my life and I appreciate you.
If you need anything urgently, please contact Tim. He will take care of you until I return. If I didn’t tell him everything, just know I wish I did. I’ll take care of you as soon as I get back from retrieving an unholy amount of golf balls from a variety of unfortunate lies playing the best golf of my life.
